show me your topshop: my picks

two of my favourite picks from the show me your topshop shoot, i love these outfits and im going to definitely be inspired by them for my winter dressing: im loving the leather jacket and the high-waisted skirt -all the way up under the boobs!- and in the other outfit the feathery jacket, skinny jeans (jeggings perhaps?) and big boots.
i think im gonna have to find me a leather jacket, there are plenty at the store i work (even one with studs like in the picture) but ive never had one before and i feel strange in a leather silhouette, all my jackets are longer, hm... i must try some on...

rainy pink

another birthday party last night: a friend had a big dinner party at his parents' house with home-cooked mum's food - yum! when we left after midnight, there was a soft rain falling silently: there was no-one on the roads and everything looked glisteny and shiny, so beautiful!

checks & chains

yay, its fiiiiiiinalllyyyyy cooooooold!!!
this week has been chilly and rainy and i love it! invited to a birthday party last night i happily rummaged through my *winter* pieces -cardigans, jumpers, sweaters, wooo!- and found this last year's dress/shirt. i love its greeney tone. i used to wear it big and loose but i thought id try it with a chain belt - not bad!
halfway to our friend's house i realized that practically my whole outfit is from zara, ridiculous!..

dress prep

wowweee, that above is meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
today was fabric-shopping day for my dress-for-the-wedding. my friend designer and i  went to some cool little forgotten shops in the old town where helpful little old men rolled out endless reels of vintage fabrics for us to study, it was pretty awesome. i found several inspiring prints for future clothes-making (im so happy i found a designer/maker to bring my ideas to life!) but i also found the coolest pink/blue flower print for THE dress!

the idea -as you see above- is to have a high-waisted peplum style (very similar to my oasis skirt) with some black details to break up the flower-power: little ruffly black sleevey things, a black neckline and a black sash around the waist. (with black non-opaque tights and my topshop aggie boots, wowwee!!) i thought of maybe having a visible black zip coming down the back too, but we'll decide about that towards the end.
HOW EXCITING!!!
probably my favourite thing so far is the sketch my friend whipped up in about 15 seconds, im in love with it - she even drew my platform boots!

pink knit

my second visit to fashion week and i was so happy wearing my new cardigan on friday that i decided to go in a knitted outfit again.
the good thing was that i love love love this vintage jumper that i never really got a chance to wear (bought it just before the summer exploded so yesterday was its debut), the bad thing was that the fashion hall was crowded and stuffy, and i got ridiculously hot! i was sitting there in my huge jumper while other fashion peeps were strutting around in skimpy dresses, lol!
sigh, maybe its not time to get the heavy clothing out yet...

cyprus fashion week: totsi

noooo, my pictures are just terrible, i know! but this is the second show we went to at fashion week: a young label called totsi - the collection was called 'through the looking glass' and was obviously inspired by alice in wonderland. my favourite things were cute details on  necklines, collars and shoulders, and apron-ish details on the skirts and dresses. none of which show in my pictures, doh. i'll have to see if i can get better ones from somewhere!

tattoos post!

the boyfriend has added to his tattoos. usually we go together but this time he went without me, cos ive been spending all my money on clothes (how unfair is THAT!?). here is mr skull!

ooh, i feel a tattoo story coming on!... feel free to just look at pictures or skip to the next post, hehe.
so when i started doing my arms i was wary of damaging my job prospects, of having people assume the worst of me, of the tatts looking strange when im an old lady etc. but i'd been fascinated by tattoos for years and it wasn't going away, so i chilled. i had a good talk with my tattoo artist who is basically covered in ink, even with a couple of facials. he said that in the end, its your personality and manners that speak to people no matter what your body art says. i've found that to be true, especially with people who already know me. most friends said that the tattoos suit me as much as my clothes or hair do, they're just a part of chloe. funnily enough, i don't even notice them any more and don't consider myself to be particularly modified - time for the next ones methinks! and my artist loves me (and shows off my arms to people ha!) because my pale skin takes well, making them stand out and look super-clear.

i've had people stop me in the street to ask about them and strangers starting conversations over them, which is cool. the most negativity ive had was "how are you gonna wear a wedding dress with those?" and "in my country only women of the street have tattoos" (from an older eastern european lady). i can handle comments like that. i assume that the man i marry will have tattoos too so we'll be a tattooed couple at the altar - no big deal. plus, there is such a thing as "sleeves" if i really don't want them to show, hello.

as far as job prospects go, i work in fashion so my colleagues are open-minded. even some of the bosses have mods - a supervising merchandiser was so excited over my sparrows that she took pictures of them! before i got my current job, i managed a hair salon, before that i wrote for a music magazine. people knew (and liked) that i had a quirk, so the tattoos would've pretty-much fit in anywhere, as long as i fit in. as far as the parents? strangely it was my mum who was/is more against it - my dad watches miami ink and i think he would secretly love to get something done too. and well, my boyfriend is all for it, the only thing insists upon is that my chest stays untattooed - "boobs must be clean!" aw honey, you're so funny!... x

brown animal cardi

i used to refuse to wear brown but with my new hair, im looking at it in a whole new way. so: say hello to my overdraft buy of the month! i was trying to be careful, i promise i was, but i couldn't wait until payday to buy this cardigan, could i!? what if there were none left in my size!?? what if it had sold out!?? what it was completely GONE by the end of the month!?? panic panic, panic!!
*ha, does anyone else get these mad panics in stores?*
i wore this to the fashion show yesterday, i had thought about being a bit more glamorous for the fashion crowd dahling, but in the end i just wanted to wear my new knit, yaaaay!

cyprus fashion week: yiorgos eleftheriades

our turn to see collections for next year, woo! cyprus fashion week spring-summer 2010 launched on thursday (daaaamn, couldn't get an invite to jcdc's opening!) and all is going well so far!
the first show i attended was on friday, of a guest designer from greece: yiorgos eleftheriades. i had seen some of his work before -he does men's and women's- but i was impressed when i saw it live: there were some really pretty chiffony details: draping and trailing from dresses and high-waisted skirts, as well as rosette-type appliques on some of the blouses and jackets. and a cool silky printed jumpsuit! my favourite pieces were the airy, flouncy skirts (see 3rd pic) but what i liked most were the colours: very pale green, yellow and peach contrasted with black. it perfectly illustates how you can't go without black, even in the hottest summer!...
pics (click for bigger) are from the official site because i forgot my camera (that's what you get for running late and grabbing your bag at the last minute!) so i can't show you my own view of things, but i promise to take it to my next show on sunday!

shoulders

went to another wedding last night.
again, nothing new in the outfit, i remembered this little jacket because i wore it to fashion week last year (haha look at my hair again!) so i built the look around it. it has a slight glimmer to it and the cutest little padded shoulders, i like it a lot! and the peplum skirt is just a classic... the outfit's colours are slightly mis-matched but i don't mind, i like the quirk!

news!

ooooh, some exciting news!
1. i'm having a dress made, for the big wedding in november (bf will be best man at his best friend's wedding, so i have to look my... erm... best!) i asked a fashion designer friend if she would make me a dress, she accepetd the challenge and we're going fabric shopping next week, yaaaaaay! i have a few ideas but im basically going to let myself be inspired by whatever material we will find. i think i want light-ish colours: peachy, minty, pale-blue or light grey to contrast with my big black shoes.. but again, we will see...
2. cyprus fashion week is next week too, and i've got an invitation to one show already sorted. hopefully i will be able to get to the opening too - the opening show is always by an international name and this time its jean-charles de castelbajac!! i LOVE him!! HOW EXCITING!!! will keep you updated.
3. i darkened my hair again. i like it.
4. boyfriend got a new tattoo today while i was working (saturday working suuuucks!) - its a skull in a tophat. i can't see it properly yet because its still covered at the moment, but i'll take a pic tomorrow! i really want to add to mine but no-money-no-honey for tattoos right now... maybe after xmas!

grey & bling

just a little something i wore today - couldn't be bothered to take out the tripod and pose with the timer (boyfriend's at work). im really liking grey at the moment and this tshirt is one of those ooooooold pieces that i guess everyone has in their wardrobe. it was suuuper-cheap: my boyfriend bought it but when it was washed it shrunk upwards and grew widthways (basically, shorter and wider), so he gave it to me. at first i used it as pyjamas but then it creeped into my daytime wear: its so comfrotable and i love its wideness. it looks good as a layered piece, i'm sure i'll be wearing it all through winter.
the native-american necklace was a summer item but i like it with the grey and i also threw in the gold heart-watch to bling everything up a little.
> peacocks tshirt, stradivarius bead necklace, asos heart-watch pendant

on another note, i'd like to say a wazzuuuup to all the regualr visitors and an extra hello to the new people who have been commenting and leaving messages, its great to meet you all and see a whole bunch of fresh blogs! x

the season of weddings

or perhaps it should be 'age' of weddings?..
getting 'older' (pfffff) means that all our friends are going down the marriage and babies route. last night we were invited to a friend-of-my-boyfriend's wedding, and next week i have another, of a girl from work, and then next month is the big one, where my boyfriend will be best man - oh my goodness!
so this is what i wore - i have decided to continue with exploring my wardrobe rather than buying new things all the time, so there is nothing new in this outfit, im quite proud! this leopard/animal-print dress was a bargain, i forgot how fun it is.

come to mumma!

today turned out to be wedding shoe day! my boyfriend had arranged to take his groom (he's gonna be best man at our friends' wedding next month) shopping for shoes and i decided to tag along to give a girl's opinion. we had some time to kill while waiting for him so i dragged the boy to topshop because i haven't been for aaaages!.. i wasn't particularly planning on buying anything, i just wanted to see what was new. the clothes were cool but much more expensive than my budget can allow at the moment (has it become more expensive or is it just me?)
BUT:
i fell in love in the shoe section.. i mean these suede babies were just sitting there waiting for me! i did actually say 'come to mumma!' under my breath!
so with the boyfriend cowering in the background (at the time i couldn't understand why he wouldn't come closer but he told me later that the surging crowds of girls scared him, lol!), i tried them on and clumped around a bit -they're suprisingly comfortable- and actually bought a size smaller than my usual. isn't that funny? and about 4 times cheaper than the acne atacomas i was thinking of a few months ago..
so these are my big black platform wedding boots, yaaaaay! perhaps not what one would imagine for a wedding outfit but they suit me just fine! now i just need to find a dress hmm... i think im going to go for something pale and pastel (minty, pinky, peachy, baby bluey?) to juxtapose the black bootiness.
now i just hope i can be patient enough to wait a month to wear them...
oh, and the groom found shoes too -he actually bought the men's acne brogues, lol!- we were all happy!

go team edward!

so i finally watched twilight and although i wouldn't say ive become obsessed, im certainly enjoying the whole phenomenon that i've discovered around the book(s) and movie(s). in the spirit of the edward vs jacob debate, i've added the following to my wishlist - you can get them in a whole rainbow of colours but i thought black and blue would be more twilighty..

kaela, this is for youuuuuu!..

grey date

so the boyfriend took me on a date last night and i thought id pull out an 'old' pair of shoes, just so that i'm not wearing the same favourites all the time. once i put them on however, i remembered why i don't wear this particular pair: they're one size too big! honestly chloe, how is it possible to try on a pair of shoes in the shop and then proceed to buy them in the wrong size!??
apart from the flopping shoes, i like this outfit (hence the 4 photos). i think grey is my new best colour, and this top has such nice stud details on the pockets and even stud-buttons around the big neck. and as you see its back to the usual oversize top and skinny legs, yaaay!...
>stradivarius top, bershka leather-look jeans, red herring heels, don't remember the make of my bow bag, big rings

horses, unicorns or wolves?

lalala, i've really missed ebaying! i used to make ebay wishlists all the time but since changing jobs i've started buying clothes from the mall where i work, rather than the internet. add one extreme disappointment of a parcel that never arrived (where is my blue sequined tunic/dress!? 10 weeks late probably means that it will never get to me, am i right?) and you can see why i was quite disappointed with online shopping.
HOWEVER, my consumerism is not quenched by simple mall-shopping so i have returned to ebay. after purchasing the stomps below, i browsed around a little more and found these tees!
airbrush art is an acquired taste but despite the kitsch factor, im loving it! i have a black wolves t-shirt that i bought at the beginning of the year (oh my god, look at my hair!) but these pastelly purple-hued colours are so cute! (purple, hm, i don't have any purple clothes...) now of course, the question is... which animal!?

stomp stomp stomp

im ridiculously attracted to these platform boots that i found on ebay, they are a bit 'early 90s spice girl' shoes but im thinking that they look so comfortable! i need some 'daily' shoes but i don't want sports shoes and i don't particularly like flat shoes because i would feel short... so these would be totally amazing!
we'd need to change the laces though, get them a bit dirty (although i really like the grey/tan colour) and perhaps distress the red lining. but they have great potential yes?? what do you think? im SO excited!

loose & rose

went to a friend's store opening last night. he's a menswear designer (he made my boyfriend's 'best-man' suit for our friends' wedding coming up in november) and he's just set up his own studio. i forgot to take my camera but he had a few nice men's jackets with cool buttons, lapels and bits of embroidery - a bit rockstarry: i could imagine bradon flowers from the killers wearing them.
i decided to go for a change: instead of skinnies and a big top, i reversed the trend to wear a loose bottom(!) and a more fitted top. i felt a bit weird in the different shapes but proud of myself for deviating from my normal silhouette. i even skipped my usual jewellery pile-up, sticking to just one statement necklace. not bad!

home

was playing around at home last week taking pictures in one of my favourite rooms. i love the openness of it, with the full-width window(s) leading to the balcony on the left. its our 'toy' room, where we display quite a few of our prized finds! i suppose its a kind of trophy room, except instead of traditional valuables, we have mostly pound-shop treasures (hey, they're valuable to us!).
and isn't our wooden floor just lovely? and my zebra rug? ive had that since my teens, it used to be in my bedroom at my parent's house!
some more of my best things are:

on the ikea bookcase: my geisha plates and the teeny lace parasol, the pink buddha, the swan collection in the top right corner, my boyfriend's customized qees (second down, second left - the red one was an xmas present to me!), the collector's evian bottles, his vintage toy cars, my precious 'face' and 'elle' magazines (i prefer elle to practically all other fashion magazines), and some of our books selection - his design, my fashion

on the table/window ledge: the table itself &its chairs -oops, one missing cushion!- (our friends joke that this corner looks like a greek taverna setup!), assorted candles & small plants, the wooden red 'love' typepiece (i had been looking EVERYWHERE for one!), the outside greenery (a huge pink-flowered bougainvillia, so beautiful, we have many of them in cyprus, i adore them), the vintage blue spiral glass bottles in the corner (my mum's - very old), my framed old fashion editorial -i put it there cos the theme was green- and the bamboo stalks in a vase, present from the boyfriend's mum

on the ikea cabinet: an old tv set that my sister picked up for 10euros at a car boot sale (and i promptly stole, well she can't take it with her to australia can she!?) - it actually picks up one channel in fuzzy black&white, my two favourite picture frames: one pink filigree swirls and one etched mirrored, my pink perspex cross (i think it was a cds storage solution? but i use it to display small bits and pieces), the parrot mirror from the local pound shop, the 3 little japanese people (in front of the tv, 2 girls and a boy, one of the first joint purchases me&the boyfriend made), the geisha nesting dolls, the green-ball light (which i don't use cos things look weird in green!), my boyfriend's limited edition iridescent-print poster celebrating 50 years of the cd (graphic designer stuff again tss), its pretty cool though - it changes colours as you move past it like a cd (doh). and the ikea pink&gold vase on the floor. the silver bauble on the door handle is an xmas decoration but i like it there, it looks arabian

and finally, on the floor next to the door, my vintage-looking rose drawings. i friggin love these, as do most girls who visit out flat, hehe. they are another treasure found in the oddest place: the diy-store! aren't random finds just the best!??

ha, i just realised i did a selby, lol!!

new shoe crush!

and here is a girl (taken from the topshop inside-out blog, i believe she is one of the new york style advisors?) wearing my new shoes crush. can i have them too please!? in fact, her whole oufit pretty-much rocks.
im also thinking i like the canary christopher kane dress too... i like that its a flat colour, not another gorilla or crocodile print! id put it together with all-black: black tights (or leggings of course), black shoes, black bag, black eyed make-up, perhaps even black nails... lovely!

striiiiipes

the *first* time wearing a sweater this autumn, wooooooooooooo! perhaps winter is finally on its way?
the black&white almost-see-through mohairy-punky-type sweater jumped out at me from the zara shelf where its was sitting, i simply had to take it home with me! of course, anything other than size large just wouldn't do with the pvc leggings and platforms. speaking of the leggings, im so pleased with these! i thought the shiny material would make my legs look fatter and that the plastic-ness would make me hot but they were suprisingly comfortable and flattering, yay! i also saw a red animal-print shift dress in zara that would also look good with the pvcs, hm... (i know i said ive been buying too much zara but i can't help it!)
in other news:
1. my hair has now washed out to practically the same orange it used to be, next time im going much browner, grrrr!...
2. i've decided that the acne atacomas are way out of budget for me at the moment so i'm giving up on them (especially since the black/silver pair hasn't materialised yet at the cyprus retailer anyway). besides, im thinking i want something bulkier, perhaps with a chunkier&clunkier sole. im thinking those topshop animal-print platforms... the question now is will they or will they not come to cyprus!?

topshop unique ss10

surfer-glam? i can't believe we haven't even come to winter yet and im already being made to think about summer styles! topshop unique's spring-summer show at london fashion week has got me lusting after pastel day-glow nails and lips, mussed-up hair, amazing shoes (aren't they!??) and THAT studded shark tee, I MUST HAVE IT aaggggrrrrr!!

baaaack! (again, ha)

took a little break from blogging because i was busy at work, depressed about my swiftly-disappearing funds (only 3 days til payday now though yeeha - ive got my eye on some new boots!), and couldn't be bothered to pose for pictures after our last few outings.. im trying to get back into the swing of things: hopefully october will be a good month. of course, im running way ahead as usual - in my head im already planning for xmas. i love buying xmas presents and im choosing what-to-buy-for-who, how exciting!

my sister's (australian) fiance is leaving in a few days, going back home, so we had farewell drinks last night. not a late night but a good one! she'll be joining him in a couple of months (sniff), im trying to look on the bright side and think of australian holidays, sigh...

icon: siobhan donaghy

just read a really cool interview of siobhan donaghy on ponystep (written by a friend-of-a-friend no less!). she comes across really mature and intelligent, talking about the amazing artwork for her ghosts album, her new music porjects, and of course the sugababes (boy, that keisha sounds like a bitch!). the photoshoot is pretty hot too, you should totally check it out!

agyness black

i think i like it - it makes her skin look so clear and her eyes so blue! in some bizzare way, she reminds me of charlize theron (possibly because of the aeon flux movie where she had black hair). what do you think?

lets do the polka

ha! found an old vintage top that i bought just as summer was beginning, thus i never got the chance to wear it. today was a little bit overcast and grey so i thought it was the perfect opportunity to get a LONG-SLEEVED top out! the good news is i got complimented on it, the bad news is that i got a bit hot (despite my wishful thinking, its still not actually getting cooler). perhaps i need to wait a bit longer to get my winter gear into action...
> vintage top, zara jeans, stradivarius laceups, longer necklace from stradivarius, shorter necklace from ethnic shop, random bracelets

why, hello mr berardi

so this is what mr antonio berardi suggests i look like for winter 09-10 and i have to say, i like it! shall we list the details? black and icy grey colour palette, satin, velvet, lace, sequins, ruched panels, sheer panels, big shoulders, platform heels and high boots... i've got a big wedding coming up in november (the boyfriend's gonna be best man!), i'd love to find something like the almost sculptural ivory-grey dress from the top right pic... that would be so beautiful! (and easy to rock up with smoky eyes and black accessories!)

same shops, same shops, sorry!...

i believe that this tee will be an essential part of my wardrobe (got the same in pale blue, they were only 5.95euros in the zara sale, wheee!) oversizedness is definitely here to stay for me, especially with tight bottoms: skinny jeans or leggings. with the pink bleached jeans the other night and these teeny-flowered ones today, im slowly working my way to bolder and more patterned bottoms in an attempt to get brave enough for my neon green graffiti leggings (gasp!). today was just a quiet girls-and-mums coffee date, it was nice to chat with my friends and our mummies, haha.
and yes, i'm really loving my hair now (got it coloured &cut at the salon i used to be manager of, i love them there!) ive even found my long-ignored ceramic irons and flick out random ends, you can see it a little in the third pic. next time will definitely go a bit darker though, with perhaps blonder ends.
in wardrobe news, i've noticed that my latest outfits have all been made up of pieces from the same regular shops: zara, stradivarius, mango... i've not become a walking advertisement, they're just all in very close proximity to my work!.. must get myself down to topshop and others soon! (when i get paid, sniff... in, like, 18 daaaaaaaays aarggghhh!...)

jeans & hair debut

this is what i wore to drinks last night - another double date with my best friend and her new man! my boyfriend is on antbiotics and couldn't drink, as well as being in the process of quitting smoking (im so proud of him!) so i think it was bit difficult for him to be in a bar but he managed it - and looked totally hot, YUM!
back to fashion: these are my pink bleach-effect jeans, similar to a pair juliette lewis was snapped in recently and i love them! the boots are also newish (propelling me swiftly to my overdraft again, ho-hum!) and this is my new alexa-chung-inspired hair: it took me a couple of days to get used to the naturalness of the colour but i think i like it! plus someone already told me that the flickyness of the haircut makes my hair look longer (wheeee!) and most people seem to be liking the brown. we were a bit wary of making it too dark but now im thinking that i might go a wee bit darker next time.
> pull&bear jeans, stradivarius waistcoat, accessorize fabric-flower necklace, zara tee, zara shoes, zara bag - would you believe me if i told you my best friend is also called zara!? lol!!

topshop winter 09-10

following my 'reviews' and wishlists of mango and stradivarius i thought id also share a couple of lustworthy items from topshop. so i LOVE the furry coat thing AND the polka-dot blazer/cardigan thing (i think they are actually beads or perhaps pearls? anyone seen it in real life?). the chain-laced shoes, shredded jeans, oversized grey top and mass of diamante are just the perfect finishing touches. did i mention the pouffy hair and eyelinered pink-lipped makeup!? i want to look like this for winter: kinda grungy but glammy at the same time. i just wish it would hurry up and get COLD!...
pardon the pics, i haven't been able to find these outfits online so i had to take pics of my wobbly magazine, heh

i think this will be my last guns'n'roses post for a while BUT my 1991 tour tee arrived wooohooo! complete with so-hot-when-he-was-young axl, perched upon a banner decorated with (doh!) guns and erm... roses... ive had 2 compliments on it already, love it!! and ive also become obsessed with blue nail polish - my toenails are also blue teehee.

ram skull tee

day off today, had a few errands to run. i don't usually take pictures of daytime outfits cos they're quite dressed-down, but i really love this ram skull tee combined with the olive-green jeans. when i first bought the tshirt it was fitted but its slowly getting looser, just the way i like my tops!
>zara jeans & bag, stradivarius tee, adidas trainers, various bracelets

stradivarius: back to black

i just got a look at the new stradivarius catalogue for autumn-winter and its looking good! the new collection is called 'back to black' and it seems to tick all the things that i want for winter: lots of leggings and skinny jeans but also many slouchy trousers, blazers, jumpsuits, oversized tops (both tees and sweaters), superhigh heels & platforms, sequins and studs, waistcoats and fur gilets, belts worn high on the waist, lots of black, leather and dark denim, plus loads and loads of accessories. the catalogue itself is very cool - i love that its studio-shot rather than on location because the whole thing looks cleaner and i like the mirrored effects & duplicate images they've used.
my favourites? the 4-way mirrored girl with 4 outfits, and the two girls wearing multiple layers of jewellery: a lot of their draping is actually necklaces, i think i shall try wearing some of my necklaces like that, almost like harnesses or extra-dainty belts: its a new way to wear bling!
ooooh, i found a making-of video too! i want that chihuahua.

denim waistcoat debut

hanging out with my old gang from the hair salon (before taking my current fashion merchandising job, i was manager at a hair salon for 4 years). i hadn't seen my old boss for nearly 3 months so it was pretty cool seeing everyone -they're so fun!-, especially since they all liked my slightly longer hair and outfit! next week is my actual appointment to get the alexa hair done, im extreeeeemely excited!
>zara jeans, boyfriend's white tee -they're just so much cooler than mine!-, zara denim waistcoat, mango bag, bertie shoes, mixed bling (the neckpiece is oasis, rings & bracelets are various)
